Hey Burke ....post me 3 tunes from Santana and I'll tell you what Michael Carabello or Mingo Lewis(a friend of mine), are playing. I had one chance to perform with Santana back in 1971 in Germany, it was a night I'll never forget. I know all of the rhythmic material and basically what they do....."JC" Johnny Conga.... :;):

Hey JC (is it OK to call you JC?),

Many Thanks!

71 is about when I started listening. I very much envy you for that experiance!

I put a list up of the tunes I was interested in learning about the other day but by 'post' do you want me to send you an e-mail? I've been loving the site and forums for a while but am a new member, so I'm still not up on the lingo.

Yes I believe I did.. I didn't post them actually but described the rhythms they were playing, in the different tunes. Which were individual variations of merengue on 2 congas, played by Armando Peraza and Michael Carabello, on different albums....."JC" Johnny conga....

Hello All
JC I emailed you about those Santana rhythms a while back I hope you can find some time to send them to me or post them here.
Imwas practicing the other night and I thought it would be great if The people on this forum could give us novices help in the form of rhythms based on actual music.
For example giving us a notated rhythm with reference to the actual song (Willie Colon, Ray B, Mongo etc) this would help me a great deal to know what the proper pattern is for a particular song allowing me to learn the rhythm with the proper timing.
JC as I have email you before about The STOMP video this would be a great feature to have in the video.

So if anybody out there can post some patterns or rhythms with the associated song it would be great.
Thanks
Otto

Hi Otto...sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, but I have been very busy trying to coordinate 1. My New Book that I started to do some time ago and now I have at least 20 pages of it done. I call it "Conga-Robics" with "JC" Johnny Conga, which will feature my S.T.O.M.P. method...2. I am going into the studio to record my next CD, at the end of this month. 3. I am still compiling information for the DVD/Video. 4. I am gigging with 3 different bands including my own starting this week so it's been great for me, and about freakin time, 5. Teaching too. 6. have been rehearsing my new perc. ensamble "Origins",with brothers, Ivan Galvez,Tor Dietrichson,Steve Cherena and Tahoma, all local cats here in Seattle. As far as the Santana rhythms are concerned, i will try and get to them ,but understand some things can't be transcribed, because some are "made up" patterns by the player, but think about it in terms of "rhythm assimilation", try to break it down by listening, sometimes, listening is a better teacher, than notation...hope that helps a bit......hangin and bangin!...."JC" Johnny Conga.... :;):
