Requinto,Quinto,Conga,Tumba,Tres Golpe,Segunda,ecc,ecc

Hi , I would like to clear as follows:
What mainly give the name to the drum , size or tune?
For example in rumba style ,what is the prefered size to quinto , to macho and to hembra ?
To prefered I mean size that give easily the right sound.
May be there is a different way to foresee this matter? Which ?
Please let me know Your knowledge , or please show me link of previous discussion.
