I do understand exactly what they are trying to convey,that is the 'western approach' to phrasing with the knowlege about metric,and musical notation,but that is not (for example ),the african's approach, since they didn't have that knowlege, neither the 'rumberos' which were creating the percutive pattern of the Yambu,Guaguanco,Columbia,etc.,in Cuba had that knowlege.

Interresting.

As Zara says, it is a western approach of it. Some cultures just don't count (ed) at all and this gives some strange but yet great timing! Also, sometimes try to think 12/8 instead of 4/4 and you'll be able to swing more and find some stuff you won't be able to do write in 4/4.
