Shor Thats Eladio Perez on Bongo with El Gigante also a great tumbador Listen to Vamonos Pal Monte By Charlies brother Eddie. Eladio is a great person very humble almost gets embarresed if you tell him that he was an influence on many players at least in Puerto Rico and NYC.

On the Eddie Palmieri video Jose Ramirez is on bongo. This is when Eddie moved to Puerto Rico in the
early to mid 80's and put together this band in conjunction with the late great trumpet player Juancito
Torres. That's when Eddie recorded Palo Pa' Rumba, Solito, La Verdad etc. In the beginning Eladio was on
congas, Giovanni on bongos and the late Charlie "El Pirata" Cotto on timbales. Great Band.

In Eddies video Thats Eladio on congas, on Charlies he's on Bongo, prior to Eddies move to PR Eladio had giged with Eddie in NYC he then went back to PR. When Eddie moved to PR Eladio rejoined him, Giovanni was on bongo, Eladio was freelancing and was replaced by Giovanni on Congas. First time I saw Gio with Eddie was in Las Fiesta Patronales de Carlolina. The bands performance was explosive Eddie loves to jam live and Gio like nothing better than to tear it up the whole band was on fire. In any case I know these cats well and thats Eladio on bongo with Charlie (RIP) what ever the credits say. Check out The album Vamonos Pal Monte to hear some fine Salsa percussion, Nicky Marreo is on timbales. Eddie changes his line up all the time with only top line musicians. Charlie did the same thing although he had his core friends allways there at the gigs and used older cats VS Eddie using hot new talent and changing the bands line up. It was big news when Eddie left Tito Rodriguez to start his own thing, some of the pianist that giged with Tito after that were Chic Correa of Return To Forever jazz history who brought in Herbie Hancock to play when he couldn't. Cuco will know this stuff many latin guys played in jazz bands and jazz guys in latin bands I used tag along with Ray Maldonado (RIP) to jazz gigs in the Village in NYC. The latin and jazz trade off goes back to the 1900's when James Reese Europe went to Puerto Rico to recruit musicians among them Rafael Hernandez and his brother Pocholo. Puerto Rican musicians were playing in jazz bands in NYC before WWI. WOW I appoligize I really went of subject sorry but still and interesting read. Thanks P.S. unkown to many Raphael Hernandez also influenced Cuban muscians when he lived there and Mexican muscians when he lived there also.

What about Juan Tizol with Duke Ellington. Caravan anybody? Then when you take a close look at "Machito and His Afrocubans" you will be surprised at how many of them "afro-cubans" were really "ricans".

..well that's the point that not all of them were cuban as advertised. You can add Tito Puente, Uba Nieto and Jose Mangual, Sr. to the list.
