Sonocs, Matts, SOS, Moperc

The four best I've ever played, here's my rundown on them

Sonocs- surprisingly loud and bright, these drums actually have really thick hardware, solidly made, pretty old too so I think the dryness of the wood ( hardness) may have really impacted the sound. The 10" quinto is a beaut, put me right it la la land.

Ritmo- I've had two sets, oaks and mahogany. The honduran mahogany was the best sounding tumba I've had, great open tones, lots of bass, not quite the bite on the slaps but you would expect that from warmer sounding drums.

SOS- Had two cherries, same as above, beauridul open tones, great bass, but not quite the bite on the slaps

Moperc- Currently have a maple 11.75, this is the best "gigging" drum I've had, it's brighter than the SOS and Ritmos, cuts and projects extremely well, slaps are loud but when you close them off, nice and tight. A bit more "ring" in the open tones but not the annoying sustain that some production line drums have. For gigging purposes this is my favorite so far, got an ash tumba on the way.

I've owned plenty of others, valje, gon bops (including he new CA and Acuna series) LP etc., but I think the above four ( sonocs excluded) constitute the apex of todays cong amanufacturing. It's a good time to be playin!

You've got an ash Moperc tumba on the way?
You dog!
You're the buyer who beat me by one day aren't you?
Are we talking about the Groove Series large tumba listed on the website for the discount price?
(as of right now ... it's still listed at http://www.moperc.com/en/used_drum.php)

Well somebody, maybe you, beat me by a day or maybe only an hour on that one. But it was available for a couple of months while I sat on my hands. I had contacted him with a final few questions and thought I had that drum but he came back with the news that another buyer had paid up while I was still thinking it over. You snooze you lose right?

All is well that ends well though. He's making me a large Salsa Club tumba to match my other Salsa Clubs and he's doing it at a good price so our discussions over the purchase never missed a beat.

Enjoy the tumba ... I know I'll enjoy mine.

Cheers,
BMac

That would be me.
Apparently we ran into each other at the source and didn't know it.
You drum looks very nice.
I'm looking forward to seeing mine.
I am sure it will be wonderful.

I want the large tumba (over 13 inches) because I typically find myself playing on the bottom and keeping time when I play with others. It just comes down to somebody has gotta do it, and they won't, so I do it to make things work. But hey, I'm also the kind of guy that will pick up the trash other people leave just to keep appearances up for drummers. Well sometimes guys don't leave me much room on the bottom of the tone range because they don't tune their drums. I can only loosen my Matador tumba so much and then it just doesn't play because the skin is too loose. I've found that Mopercs can play more loose than my other drums. I guess that's because they're just better drums. If you balance the tension, you can really drop that tension down on Mopercs lower than my cheaper drums. Now with a super tumba, the large Moperc tumba at 13.25 inches or so, I am gonna own the bottom ... I mean own it ... mine baby.

Cheers!

Yeah, the mopercs are pretty bad ass, I;ve got a maple conga which is a wood he doesn't use anymore, but man does it sound great! I need to get a 12.5 eventually as well to have a nice three drum set. great stuff I've tried all of them except juiniors and I really think Mopercs for live situations are the best.

I'm in Charlotte.
Why?

Wouldn't it be nice if you could try playing the craftsman instruments at stores?
You can try the top end LP's and such in stores ... but not the small maker drums ... which I think are better.
But stores don't carry drums from the little guys because the market is too small, and the players who own the drums are spread all over so it's catch as catch can on trying the better drums.

For whatever it's worth I'd let anyone who wants to see/hear/try Mopercs in the Charlotte area see/hear/try my drums. I let anyone (not wearing ring or bracelets) play my drums.

Cheers,
BMac
