In response to your question

Check out how he stays out the way the whole intro.

That takes a bit of discipline.

Of course I think we post vids of dudes ( and ladies) chopping out because we are drummers, I personally posted that just because of his technique, I think we all know technique is just a means to an end, Thomas Lang, probably one of the most technically proficient drummers there is stated " you can take a hammer and build a shack or build the sistene chapel"

BTW Candido Camero was the first to do what Giovanni is doing with bongos and one conga..back in the 50's and 60's..I saw Candido on TV in the late 50's as a kid and that may have inspired me as well...Like Armando Perazza was to George Shearing...Candido was to Tony Bennett as Tony's percussionist...back then...

Armando was the first time I ever really sat and watched percussion, saw him at the waldorf in SF in 84, with orestes, raul and graham lear on drums, went out and bought some LP bongos right after!

Check out one of my former students and now friend Edwin Torres on timbales..also Ritchie Bravo on drumset...Edwin is now living in El Paso going to College and playing around town...anyone from this forum that lives there should look him up, he's got "mad skillz!".....his solo starts at about the 6 minute 40 sec. mark...

Mongo and the band 1963 on the Mirta Silva show, take a look at Mongo's Vergara congas. Aside from Mongo, Carmelo Garcia on timbales, Victor Vengas on bass and a very young Ray Maldonado on trumpet. The tune "I Wanna Know". CLASSIC!

Mi gran amigo Eladio Perez one of MY all time favorite Congueros...just chek his work with Eddie Palmieri during the early 70;s...and of course here with this video with Tommy Olivencia... Eladio, my Bro Willie "El Ruso" and I would jam on 142 and the Grand Concourse in the Bronx when Eladio was the 'super' of a building and we would jam in side the building boiler room during the winter, some great jams then....

<<If you see most of them, the one that are not died are all beat up even Endel>>

Leedy, ya tu sabes el tiempo no pasa en vano. (Time waits for nobody). Tommy Olivencia had monster bands during the 70's, they kicked butt and took names.

JC, Eladio is one of my all time favorite "tumbadores". He was a kid when he first played with EP as a matter of fact Nicky, Chuckie and Eladio were all kids when they recorded "17.1" which was their average age and they were known as "Los Diablitos".
