Bongo Case

Does anybody remeber the old school Bongo Case? They were a black rectangle box made out of hard plastic. Anybody know the name of the company who manufactured them? Does anybody have pictures or know of anyone who's selling one.

I've sold bongos but never my trusted case, not only does it protect the drum and cary the bell wrench and anything else you may want to carry but it serves as a stand for you bell. The newer ones are soft and can't be used in that manner, the sippers break and fabric tears, the bean shaped ones, well thre shaped like Lima beans. I have had my case since the early 70's and they have served me well I have two one for 60's Mahagony the other early 70's Zebra wood LP bongos. Mine are hinged not tied with straps.

It's hard to find a heavy duty road case for bongos. LP used to make a great one but they stopped making it years ago. The best thing I have found, that I trust to check through as a road case is a heavy duty metal no-name tool box I found. Some of the plastic tool boxes from Sears or Stanley 20-22" work for most, not all bongos. You need to line them with strong foam. A good custom case costs $$$, the commercial "Bass pedal - Bongo cases" are crap.

+1 to this, it's what I use too. But I get one of those cheap bongo cases from ebay to use as a liner, I posted it before.

Le Blonde cases are worth looking at.

Hardcase is a pretty solid make, I've even used one as a seat in emergency situations.

There is a company called Humes & Berg who manufacture a bongo case strong enough to ship through airline baggage rough handling. The model is the Road Boss RB601 which sells for about $280 for the added costs of custom ordering plus shipping charges. If you really want to protect your prized bongos this is the way to go. Drummer's World in NYC is where I went to place a custom order. The standard size is 20" wide x 11" deep x 9.5" high but you can lengthen the width, depth or height according to your specifications for an added cost.I ordered my case with a 24" length and keep the other dimensions standard and added a locking mechanism as well. The extra room will house my bells, beaters, clave, lug lube and tuning ratchets. Excellent case for the travelling bongocero. There isn't a photo available but the cases are similar to the ATA styled cases you see on movie crew sets for cables and studio equipment. The hardcase link posted earlier is a British company that doesn't even ship to the states unless you go through a reputable distributor to special order a case. They produce a nice looking case with quick release straps but you can't lock the case with a padlock or key. The tool box idea ia worth a try. I saw a stack-on model that would do the trick for a relatively low price. The stack-on model DXG-22-1 22" steel/plastic tread plate toolbox. You could find this on the Amazon website for $29.99. I personally opted for a better case (Humes & Berg) to house my SOS cherry bongos that I have ordered from Jay Bereck. The NOMAD Cases are garbage fiberboard crap. If you spill a beverage on that case you may as well trash it. Cannot hold up to moist, very humid enviorments. Hope my comments help.

That one on Amazon looks like the one I use. I glued a piece of plywood in the lid and lined it with heavy-duty foam. It has made a bunch of flights and road trips and, so far, has held up pretty well. I do want one like the one you ordered but can't bring myself to spend the $$. There are some flight case places that sell the parts for a DIY project and I have a big old road case that I keep looking at and planning to cut apart and rebuild some day - "one of these days" -. Anyway, if you travel, a good strong case is a good investment.

HUMES & BERG CASES ARE VERY WELL MADE.

A NOMAD CASE, IS A WANNABE VERSION, THAT WILL CRACK, WHEN YOU'LL NEED IT MOST.

SOMETIMES THE BEST CASES ARE MADE BY THE DRUMS OWNER'S THEMSELVES. A LITTLE CREATIVITY CAN GO A LONG WAY; AND YOURS MAY HAVE A UNIQUE CHARACTER TO IT.

Here's a case I use which works perfectly to house my equipment. The model number is GXDF-1224-8 by Gator Cases. Price varies from $144 to $160 depending on the distributor. Hope this helps you in your decision. The case it sits on top of is no longer manufactured. Purchased that one in 1985.

My best Bongo case was purchased from a Good Will Store for $7.oo ! It was an Eddie Bauer , travel case w/ many pockets and compartments, had a telescoping handle w/ roller blade wheels. I can fit my larger model bongos, my tripod base for a low profile stand ( I built my self ), has a compartment for spare heads & sheet music folders, travel items / shaving kit etc. a pocket for 2 or 3 hand bells, the opposite side pockets for timbale sticks, bell beater sticks, tools etc. I lay the bongos in face down onto padding so I can put an Afuche/Cabasa inside the drum shell, put my misc. sound effects amd mini rawhide maracas in another shell. No one makes a multipurpose bongo case / rolling ~ multiple ues case like this ! I lay it on its side to serve as a bell holder and my Guiro slides in a pocket for quick easy acess. I always use it as a flight case since it is slightly smaller than the size limit for carry on.
