Anyone able to send me the notation of 6/8 Rumba columbia
also if they have any video clips of this rhythm that would be super appreciated too.

Thanks

J

PS I have alot of Quicktime small clips of Rumba , Bata, and general technique which I filmed from my Mentor

Rumba is part of my training in my percussion ensemble, but if you have a mentor,he should be able to show you those patterns.

his talking about the musical phrase of the Conga Patterns(which is also called notation). The reasons I could not write stuff, is an agreement with my students some years ago not to teach percussion over the internet.

We all have reasons for what we do but what good is it if you are not willing to share the knowledge versus a "promise" not to teach online???? Like who is gonna know your "sharing", and so what? Help me to understand this. This is the reason for such a place as the CongaBoard. To help and share with one another. I have no reservations of "teaching" or helping anyone who comes my way with questions etc...so I find it a bit hard to understand the mentality you have concerning teaching online. It reminds me of the guys in NY that would say Naw I don';t teach nobody, I'm gonna keep it all to myself like they have "rights" on rhythms or something.....No one "owns" the rights to any information. Historical knowledge is one thing and practical application is another.....Peace....tu pana ...JC JOHNNY CONGA... :;):

Please check out http://www.drumrhythms.com/english/homeengl.htm

On the right side of the page there is Video sample, if you click there you will see video clip which shows Rhumba columbia being played using two congas. Hope this helps - always believe in sharing ......

I just watched your video clip and really appriciate the help of you and others.
I just started learning congas a couple of months ago and there is a real shortage roll models or mentors in rural Wisconsin USA.
Pancho Sanchez is coming to town next month. I know that JC has issues with him, but I'm quite looking forward to this.
The joy is in the journey

It is not that I don't want to teach(I've been teaching for 15 years now),it was a situation for which I was confronted by some students in relation to getting pay by them, and then giving free instruction over the internet, the second reason is not be able to supervise practice,if I tell somebody to do something and later it is performed wrong,it is easy to say Zaragemca told me that. Also Conga patterns even when fallowing a setted foundation, could have the personalized Style of the player, teacher. He said he got a teacher(those are the occasions where I try to stay out also(as matter of courtesy),unless they come to me for training after been with somebody else(usully Advanced Structures).

Hi Jason,

Hope all is well! Take a look at the attached link. There you will find many Afrocuban Folkloric Rhythms notated among them, Rumba Columbia versions from Matanzas and La Habana. The rhythms are courtesy of Mr.Curtis Lanoue. Curtis did study with one of the best percussion instructors available @ Escuela Nacional de Arte in Cuba, Mr. José Eladio Amat.

Hope this helps!

Hi Guys,

sorry I haven't replied I thought I would receive email notification of replies. I checked the link
to my knowledge the low drum part demonstrated on the video is the low drum pattern for 6/8
Bembe not rumba columbia. I now have the notation from another source. Anyway thanks to
everyone.
