Thank you, guys.. I’m really happy with the way they came out. I’m waiting for the new skins to dry a little more and them I’ll crank them up and have some fun.. :)

Aloha emveeone,

Great job on your resto project! Mahalo for the info you shared on our last chat. As I told you of my own project, here are pic's of the final product.
The tub is a 10 1/2 inch head and the tub was painted in Brilliant Black, a Dodge Charger factory color, and the pinstripes are in beige. At first I mounted a medium Steerhide and noticed slight overtones, but cracking slaps! I then mounted a thick Steerhide which was a P.I.T.A. to mount! The results were to my liking, Ol' Skool dry tones with more of a "knocking" slap! With the thick head the fiberglass drum sounded like a wood tub.
I noticed the original heads on the tub was thick and bleached. I'm much happier with the thick head and will leave it on.

Keep on Poundin'... Aloha, maSSivdrums

Hi maSSivdrums....your drum looks great! I was wondering if you had some pics of the restore in process that you could post? Was the drum originally black pinstripe? I have a post about my 2 kings that I just purchased. They are black with a yellow pinstripe. Was wondering if the Dodge Charger black was the original color? Any chance you might want to trade something for that beautiful quinto? Jacqui

Aloha Jacqui,

Mahalo for the compliments. The brilliant black color is not like the original color. The new color has blue and silver flakes in it. I don't have any photos available of the restore from my painter. When I got the drum 2 years ago on eBay it arrived with many dings and dents which was expected for a drum this old. What was not disclosed to me by the seller was that a side plate and lugs were missing and the tub had a 4 inch crack in the side of the belly of the tub. The original color was black with a oyster/green tint to it.
At this time I am not interested in letting it go. It was my dream to own a pinstripe set since I seen Papa Dee Allen of WAR playing one in the 70's. If for some reason I do let it go I will keep you in mind.
You are fortunate to own a 11.5 and a 12.5 set. I discovered your set about a month ago on CL and the seller had the set listed in a post of his selling his studio equiptment. I contacted him and made an offer for it, but he wanted 5 bills for the set, which I considered a fair price. But it would have costed me another 3 bills to ship it to Hawaii, which I painfully had to pass on. I hope to one day be as fortunate as you and complete my set.

Keep on Poundin'... Aloha, maSSivdrums

Thanks maSSivdrums...I def. understand you wanting to hold onto your drum. I also love the pin stripe. I saw it in a picture here on congaplace. Some woman was playing or sitting by one and I thought it was a really cool drum. I kept my eyes open for a set ever since and I jumped on this one when I saw it on CL. I would love to go to Hawaii some day too. In addition to conga drums I am also obsessed with giant waves. I have about every Big wave surfing video out there and really really want to go to the North Shore in winter. Take care and good luck finding a set. Jacqui
