Oyeme Yambú, Would be wise to install some high polish metal plates at the center block attaching points inside the shells to strenghten and prevent any cracking in the future. Also would be wise to send them down here so I can use them to gig during the holiday season :D . Merry Christmas Jo Jo Jo.

EL YAMBU NO SE VACUNA!

YAMBU, Jay's first set of black walnut bongos was made for Mario Galagarza, my friend and original tumbador for Willie Colon (on "El Malo" LP). After awhile I got the set from Mario, kept them for a couple of years and sold them to "pcastag", who is a member of our forum and still has them, maybe he can post a photo of them. I know I have a photo of them somewhere, I will look for them tonite. You got the second pair and let me tell you, they are beautiful and I know they sound great. I sold mine because I later got a set of oak from Jay to match my SOS congas. I wish I had kept them, they were a real jewel and numero uno in the sound department.

I found the photo of my SOS black walnut, the first set made by Jay, yours are the only other set he has made of black walnut. According to him is from the same stock of wood which he had left over. See photo of when I had them.

Christmass came to me early this year indeed! Mr. postman arrived with my walnut SOS bongo's this morning.

They just seem perfect to me! It's amazing how a quality instrument can change so much about a person's perception of playing parts. The pop and projection of these drums is simply awesome without being too sharp. They sound to me exactly how a bongo should sound.

I'll probably play them until my hands bleed then post some pictures in a day or two

C

Candeza congratulations. Man youre probably salivating all over them. Please post some pictures for us junkies soon.

The SOS black walnut bongos you have is a work of art. I'm having a set ordered next week in black walnut from Jay. His protege Mattew Smith makes beautiful bongos as well but he doesn't answer back on any of the emails I've sent to him inquiring about a purchase. Oh well his loss & Jay's financial gain. As a backup I'm ordering 2 replacement macho heads from Jay as well to cover any problems with the heads splitting open in the future from playing too long & hard or overtuning. Have learned quite a bit of necessary information on this website and I'm very glad to have joined in as a member. Paz y Felicidades a todo los bongoceros quien participan aqui en esta forma de communicacion.
