Ah cool. Awesome sounding band. 8)
A conguero friend of mine came across an album of theirs online, we assumed they were Cuban due to the contemporary feel of their Timba, bloques and overall sound, lyrics etc.

I'm completely hooked by the emotion and harmonies of Pregón, Rumberos de Cuba.
I'd love to get the lyrics and a translation.

I just downloaded Paoli Mejia's, Lo Que Dice El Tambor. What a song! It moved me when I listened to the lyrics, but the chorus says it all...
"El Amo No Quiere Que Yo Toque El Tambor". Does anyone know who sings it? Obviously, I don't know much about Paoli Mejia, I know he plays the bata and conga, but does he sing in his own band? If you've heard this song, what are your thoughts.
There are many other artists who move me as well, but I'm listening to Paoli at the moment :D
Cheers,
Bernardo

Hi to All,

Haven't posted in a while...just been lurking and practicing my butt off. Technique, technique, technique!

You MUST check out Steve Winwood's "Nine Lives" CD. :D

Awesome congas by Karl Van Den Bossche on all but one of the tracks. He gets into some of the coolest and cleanest rock/funk/afro grooves I've heard on any recent CD.

CHECK IT OUT!! There is a youtube video of a live concert cut of "Hungry Man". Video is lower quality than cut on CD, but a teaser.

Yeah, just downloaded the song "Hungry Man" (album version) and it is awesome indeed!
I love pop/rock that REALLY incorporates percussion in a sensible way.
And the song does make sense - great, a pleasure to listen to!

Thanks again, G-Man, I would not have found it on my own - the latest songs I heard were "Gimme some lovin" and "I´m a man"...

Just in case you are interested: Jack Bruce produced a solo album a few years ago http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/mus ... he+Air.htm and worth mentioning there is the great conga job by no lesser than Changuito, Milton Cardona and also "El Negro" on drumset...
Especially well done as far as the percussion workis concerned are the Cream/Clapton classics "Sunshine of Your Love" and "White Room".
Peace & drum

Hey folks,
Just picked up the latest Latin Jazz album by Bobby Matos, Unity. It smokes! Can't stop playing it. He's got two giants on tambores, Robertito Melendez and Chembo Corniel. Matos also gets in on tambores on one or two tracks. This album is sweeeet!

I've been listening to this a bunch since congamyk turned me on to it on a skype session we had:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jEVTczB2IU

Mike sent me the lyrics, and I transcribed them to fit on clave, since we were both working singing while playing clave
Included are my transcriptions. The Xs are obviously the strikes of clave.

Dom Um Romao, The Complete Muse Recordings / and Hotmosphere
The late legendary Brazilian Drummer & former Weather Report Percussionist.
One of the original Samba & Bossa Nova Drumset Innovators.
I highly reccommend listening to him.

There's a whole world of great percusssion, not just from
the Caribbean. Check out some of the rhythms of Brazil,
Uganda and Kenya and Mozambique. It'll give you
new ideas to try on congas.
