Greetings to the community of Afro Cuban drummers. Here's a look at a set of cherry wood Fat Congas that were made in the late 70's and kept in perfect condition in storage for almost 30 years. They have been played very lightly just a few times after being carefully tuned. Afterward the drums were de-tuned and put away properly. They are virtually brand new with the original finish perfectly intact. The heads and shells are correctly matched to produce a very rich, "fat" sound. Fat Congas from this era are what gained their legendary reputation for design, craftmanship, materials and performance. I'm showing these drums to announce that I intend to put them up for auction on eBay in the near future. I thought the most serious players on the planet would like the advance notice. The drums were kept in dry, cool storage in a three drum, foam lined, aluminum armored heavy duty travel case with steel latches, corners and locking wheels. This will be a rare opportunity for someone to obtain probably the only pristine set of vintage Fat Congas anywhere on Earth.
The drums are 31"tall. The head sizes are: Quinto/10" Conga/11 1/4" Tumba/12 1/2"
A beautiful set of Birds Eye Maple fat congas sold on ebay recently for 1800. A three drum set as well. These drums were very nice and probably much more rare than these Cherry woods.
