Oh Dear I messed up !!!!!! - Dilema ?

CD, you better crank it down ,NOW and put the actual lugs on before it dries, or you'll have a hell of a time to play that drum.
It looks like possibly the original lugs are going to be too short for the way that head is mounted.

I have just turn the lugs down so that the head of the drum is higher by 1/2 of an inch .the crown is now lower .

Tonio I was worried about this too , thanks for clearing that up , Do I really need to fitt the origanl lugs Im worried I might be back were I started with the skin slipped under .

how much will the skin stretch when i fit my original lugs .I am thinkgin it may stretch by another inch and mab after 3 months a bit more , How does this work?

Yeah that rim is way to high, you have to pull it down to where you want it to be when you play it, and trim it before it dries otherwise you'll have a heck of a time sawing through it.

There might not be enough for that quinto.

phew, thats good its lower. If the skin has not slipped under the hoop you should be good to go.
Just crank it down until you can start threading the original lugs. Make sure each lug is tightened uniformly with the others. i figure if its 1/2 " down from teh bearing edge , you should be able to get the lugs on. Just take each lugs tightening slowly. If it slips under, well sometimes you just chalk it up to experience.
You can use the jimmy rig long hook bolts, but why? Its just to help you mount the skin-to help you bring it down to fit the lugs. ya know?
Once you get the lugs on , let it dry. This is the moment to adjust the height of the assembly to where you want it to be. Since after time and break in peroid it will stretch a little, so have it alittle higher than you would assume. That part is up to you. Over time the skin should sretch, but mule probably not as much s cowhide. I only have once mule skin, and its stretched about 1/2, but still rather new. But each skin has its own character, so its always hit or miss due to thickness, density. sometimes you have a looser skin, sometimes they're great. After a few reskins, you start to know what skin to choose, and what the expectations are.
If yu use detuning pratices, the skin will keep most of its elacisity properties, so it won't keep stretching.

I just removed the nuts on my tumba (-that should be about dry) to lubricate the lug threads and nut/washer. also to adjust the lug / bracket alignment. Its an Lp classic, so once the lugs are started, its about as high
as it'll go.

Marco , you are fine where you are at. as you stretch that skin you will reach the other lugs, the ones you have on are fine, if you overly stretch the skun while is wet it slip again or rip. And the rim being too high , not at all as a matter of fact it will improve your technique by attacking the drum from the top and eliminating wrist hang , your slaps will not have a push against the rim and your thumb will not bounce all over the place, because you will know better that to hit that rim. I actually learned on a traditional and flush head and rim.

I just put the original lugs back on the drum , thanks again guys . the bearing egde is now about 3/4 " and the trim line looks sound .I just out a few turns on the nuts. :p

All is well I aint going to touch it untill next Saturday.

Marco, the idea was to save the head, you may have to suffer a little on the lugs, if the thread runs out on you, with the ones you have on right now ; just add extra washers.

MAKE SURE THAT HEAD IS THROUGHLY DRY.

Make sure you dry them upside down with the top part of the skin on a plastic bag. Otherwise that part of the skin will dry and shrink quicker than the wrapped skin, which could start to pull out.
You want the skin around the flesh hoop to dry and harden first so it is secure and wont move when the flat surface dries and shrinks.

That makes perfect sence , I have kept my eye on the shrinkage all day today , It has shrank by about an 1/8 of an inch since i put the oringinal lugs back, the lugs have only half a turn on each thread . the surface is starting to dry hard , I just put cling wrap on the surface upside down on a plastic bag . Great tip .
