Bought a new set of Patatos in Germany a few months ago (I live in Denmark) Got myself a very good deal, and shipping was next to nothing.

I seriously doubt that you will be able to take the drums on the plane and just import them like that. Taking them through customs like that can end up costing you a fortune in taxes and stuff.

Let me know if you want more info on the German deal.

Hei Troels!

The friend of mine, who is working at SAS can "fix" me free feight. He get spesial deals.

Well, I have to pay tax (25%), but anyhow it will be much, much cheaper than buying in Norway.

Where in Germany did you buy your Patatos? Are you satisfied with them?

Hej!

Paid 1000€ for my Patatos (conga and tumba) including shipping to Denmark.

Sorry man, but it will not be "much, much" cheaper for you to buy LP drums in the US. The list prices are around 1500$ for a set of conga and tumba. Lets say you get a good deal - maybe around 900 - 1000$, you will still have to add the 25% tax when you go back to Norway.

On top of this, these are really heavy drums (around 13-14 kg. each) You will need heavy bags for the drums to make sure they are not damaged during the trip, making them a killer to carry around on the street, in the airport etc.

My advice to you would be to think this through before you end up paying the same (or more!) for a set of drums - going through a lot of trouble for nothing.

If you want another brand that doesn't ship to Europe, of course that’s a whole different story, and you will of course have to import them yourself.

Send me a PM and I will hook you up with the German music shop. I'm sure I can get you the same deal I got.

Okay, I got it :)

Since about the last 10 - 12 years LP is no longer for sale in Norway. The reason is the high pricelevel!!! (+ taxes, toll, etc...). That`s bad...

A couple of Meinl Luis Conte Signature congas costs about 2500$...You know, it`s not even an alternative to buy congas in Norway!!

Hello Percussionfellows!

I was thinking about going to New York for bying congas...

I`ve talked with a gay at Drummersworld. LP Patatos, quinto, conga and tumba will cost 1350 $, than 30% Deposit. It will be a specialorder, so they have to know a month before if I deside to buy or not. The shipmentcosts will be at least 1000$!

...but a german musikshop had a good deal! 1300 $ for the same congas, inkl. LP Fiberglass bongos in the same color (black)! Shipmentcosts: 200 $...
I`ve ordered it :D For me it is a killerdeal!! It`s 1/3 of the norwegian price.

No I`m looking forward to the beatyfull drums:)

Congrats Stithra!
Now you just have to wait for them to arrive (and not to haul them around all the way from NY to Norway, as you planned)!
Have fun with your tubs!
All the best Tom!

Ps: Altough they are very nice to us male percussionists at Drummersworld, I don't think that they are gay :;): :D

Speaking of going to "Manny's" in NY, I'll be there next week and plan on visiting/shopping. Do they have nice guiros there? the gourd kind, not the plastic kind from LP at the guitar center.
thanx, huero

Hi Huero!
LP also makes real guiros, they sound better than the plastic ones.
But I saw some beautiful handmade guiros at JCR in the bronx.
Ask Isaac (sales rep. of JCR) for the price and if you'ld have to preorder them: funkytradition@yahoo.com
All the best,
Tom!

Just got back from NYC, went to Drummers World (151 W 46th between 6th and 7th.) and got a great guiro. they had some medium size cuban-style for about $55, but I got the big one with 2 sides of ridges for $78. it's a beauty! (they didn't seem to have a lot of congas there, but they had some great "toys") thanks for the tip guarachon63!
