Yongo/Nongo

Hi all

Does anyone have any info they are willing to share on the toque Nongo/Yongo. It's one that I haven't studied that much, I know the marcha and a couple of conversations but would like to know more. Any help would be great. I have seen the Yongo on this site and also Adrian Coburgs transcription.

Hi Ricky,

We're in the same boat. I recommend to check out Kenneth Schweitzer's dissertation at DRUM. Brilliant work, and it opened my eyes and ears to Nyongo. (Click "dissertation.pdf".)

Nyongo is one of the most frequently played toques in the whole tambor business. It is all about taste, feeling and good reflexes. Once more, practice is more important than reading.
