Hello everyone! I am pleased to report progress from using the three videos sent to me by Onile. The jerry gonzalez one is a little beyond me at the moment due to the number of patterns being played simultaneously, but I must be patient and dissect it over time. The thomas cruz II is simply awesome in its methodical approach to learning a rhythm, and has already helped me incorporate actual patterns in our band's music...big improvement to my ears!

I will not attempt another solo until I have really studied these forms long enough to comfortably put the concepts into practice in that manner...the Giovanni Hildalgo dvd is showing me how to do that (although what's up with the blurring speed in the hands :p Maybe someone can invent a new technology to capture the actual movement :D ) . What a gentle spirit he has, BTW...very very cool.

Anyway, Thanks again everyone for the helpful constructive criticism! I get it now, and really appreciate the opportunity to grow in a more traditional way (even though I have no traditional genes...probably a disadvantage from a history standpoint).

That's my update...I will not quit!

God bless!

-Ron

excellent news Ron, the Tomas Cruz dvd is where it's at.

Bro Onile...
it's people like you that keep the music ALIVE!
You are an example of humility and kindness, that is why we play, to bless others and ourselves.
MANY blessings to you my Internet friend.
