oops didn't connect the pic here it is again
They do make some good bucarabous in Ghana though (something like a cross between a conga and djembe sound). see pic. This one has a great sound and has a dark, heavy wood.

it is true the relatively new approach of them to the Djembe/Making,(I already make reference to the Ghana/Story),but everybody is jumping in the train of the Djembe/Fever :laugh: .Dr. Zaragemca

Well Bro's I fianlly got the fever bad enough that I bought me an Ivory Coast made Djembe and I gosta say.... Its definitly a difference from the ghana made drums I have been playing, seems the tones are clearer and my different strokes are more destinctive and colorful. Dont get me wrong the ghana drums I have are all great they play well and look great, but I can see where this IC djembe has the quality in the wood, the skin and the craftsmanship of a higher end drum. Sort of like a Toyota and a BMW compairison both good cars one just got the stuff a little more!
Anyhoo I played it for a bit today and im liking it more and more.

The Ivory Coast djembes are beautiful and have unique proportions.
I've seen a few, and in fact the best sounding djembe I have ever heard or played (IMHO) was from there (not mine though – one of my first teachers' drums).

How are you all?
Just a quick note from Conakry Guinea where I am now!
Drumming here is awesome and from the highest standards.
Internet however is still in its baby stage, hehe!
I bought 2 great drums and the djembes in Ginea are the absolute best! Djembe fever ???? Djembe, congas... all drums are good and no fever whatso ever just a way of life.. especially here.
I have been playing for 6-8 hours per day rock solid and drumming here makes you strong
! I will be flying back this weekend and hope to be uploading some great pics, stories and more when I will get back!

Hey Drum brothers,
Well it took me a while to re enter this thread again! Africa was absolutely amazing, it's truly the motherland of drums. The Guinean musicians I met there, play with such pride and intensity that witnessing their knowledge and hearing their music is already a valuable lesson by itself. Guinea is the country where the Djembe is originated from although the Guinean musicians/Griots all told me that there used to be the Empire of Mali or Mandeng which covered the whole of Guinea, southern regions of Senegal, Mali, parts of Burkina Fasso, Ivory coast and Sierra Leone. Bangourake, griot and djembefola who organised the trip, has been playing since the age of 5 and just got initiated as Master Drummer in Guinea. Through him I got in contact with various drummers, dancers and singers from the local ballets who were eager to share their knowlege and who were the most loveliest people! You can say that I ended up with some new African Family! My Guinean name is Ousmane Fote (the white Ousmane) now and it's all in good fun! It's great to see people who are so happy with what they got! All they have is their music and culture. Not enough money, not enough clothing, bad infrastructure and hardly any good education but... they keep on smiling! We are very spoilt! I tried to share everything I had on me while I was there and that was the best I could do and the Guineans appreciate that. What came in handy, was the fact that I speak a bit of French. That is really needed! For now I will post some pics and if you comments and/or questions I am happy to reply now!

Dancers at Dounounba in Sangoya, Conakry ( a dounounba is a musical and public gathering of drummers and dancers, everybody can join in. A dounounba is also the largest of 3 bassdrums that is part of a traditional Guinean drum ensemble)

Another young talented solo drummer at the Dounounba in Sangoya Conakry who became a friend of mine! His name was Mohamed Bangoura as well! Killer chops!

Bangourake performing at the island of Room! We stayed for one week on this tropical island! Notice that he plays with 2 djembes. He was blowing us way with playing 2 independent rhythms!
