Bata rhythms for congas - examples

Hello conga community,

a great new year to everybody! We will need it.

I am looking for some good transcription of bata rhythms for congas.

I absolutely love the bata but feel at this stage that I don't have the time to take that whole thing on. I attented to a lot of Santeria ceremonies and I felt the power of the drums, the beat and the melodies. So beautiful and inspiring!
So I like to play some on the conga and it can sometimes be very interesting in completely different contexts. Check that franco-cuban band Orishas they made some really interesting hip hop using batas.

I was taught this version of obbatalà in cuba and it is great fun.( I am not sure how to put the image on the post, if it doesn't show please tell me how to do it)
Please post some as well or links to transcriptions for congas.

Try things like chachalokefun and nongo ,wardo .These are easy to transfer over to the congas.All these grooves are in the batabook on congaplace.com

I should also say that when the slap and tone play together in the second part they are both on the quinto. Kind of flam of tone and slap.

and another thing, just in case you were wondering.

First line is for 2 congas, second is for 3.

I believe this is in 3/2 clave.

BTW - the chacha loquefun in the conga cookbook that was mentioned is one of my fav's.

Saludos,the transporting of Yorubas patterns to Congas was a movement started by Dr. Obdulio Morales back in the 1930's with the shows 'Batamu',and was followed by Gilberto Valdez,(Batanga),etc. Mongo Santamaria,and Francisco Aguabella are the percussionists which started that movement in the U. S., and... there are others groups from Cuba.This is part of my developing training which I teach for Afro/Jazz,Afro/Pop knowledge within my students.Dr. Zaragemca

Actually just learn the bata parts then play them on the congas. I've seen Michael Spiro do this with two cowbells on pedals. Pretty amazing.
