¡Vaya Caballoballo!
¿Cómo esta mi pana?

Yo! Yesterday, after reading your post, I stopped by a local Guitar Center and found a bunch of JCR cowbells, there were maybe six bongo bells, and most of them sounded different from one another. I happen to find one amongst the bunch that sounded incredibly good, it sounds like it is tuned to a "C"!
The sound is kind of like on "Grupo Niche" recordings, I bought it right away, $21.00. I actually have four bells, two of which sound the same (LP ES-3), but two JCRs, one is a large bell and has the ol' school deep sound, and then this one I picked up yesterday! ¡Estoy satisfecho con esta campana de JCR!

Suave!

Onile,que pasa hermano ?

Yes, Jcrs are indeed the best Bells out there ,I have 2 of them now. The one I bought from Maribel is a Low pitch but the mouth height is about 3/16 higher than the other low pitch Jcr I have and the overtones got quiet faster than on the older one. I remember telling my Lady to hold the bell so I could not mix it with the others because I knew it was different. I don't know if the other Bongoceros here at the Island bought any of the bells,it is a good buy. They sell for about $35 at Pure Sound store.

How You ever play one of those Moperc Bongos ? The one I bought has such a good sound, very crisp and deep low bass and although the heads are of very good quality I be changing the macho head for a Fyberskin. The Wood is Ash and the shells are 3/4" thick at the top and bottom, the center is 5/8" . My group Conguero changed his Tumbadora head for a nuskin and he gave me that old thick Tumbadora head which I am going to mount on the hembra of the Moperc. I have no more gigs this month but we have about 10 in December. Que siga la Rumba.

I might be interested in the cases. (Have four bongos to keep and only two cases). The bells??? Well I have over 30 JCR and other brand handheld bells so I will pass on checking Ivan's. (About 90% of them JCR).

The thing with JCR bells is that you got to try them before you buy...All bells sound different, a little overtone here, less pitch, more pitch, etc. There might be some that sound practically the same but is just luck you find it in a batch at Cali's shop or at a store.

Here in PR if you want JCR bells you have to buy them at Pure Sound in Bayamon and Music Sound in Caguas. (Don't know if Timbas Ismael are carrying them). The prices for handheld in stores in PR could range from $30 to $35. (I have bought mine half in stores and half, at a big discount, at Cali's shop in the Bronx).

Saludos!

¡Vaya Caballoballo y Raymond!
¿Cómo estan mis hermanos?

Caballoballo: Actually, I had intended on ordering a set of tumbadoras from Moperc, instead however I've just ordered skins from them, (7 skins to be exact). I've placed them on my Patato tumbadoras, and am now putting them on my GonBops. I've only received one of the three drums I've ordered from them so far, but this weekend I mounted the new skin on it. ¡Suena increíble mi pana! I have yet to hear any of Mopercs instruments however.

Raymond: I paid $21.00 for the bell I got the other day at Guitar Center, but as you said, each bell sounds slightly, and sometimes greatly different, and it's great when you can find the sound that you're seeking. I did, so I snatched it up right away. I tried all of the bells that they had, both on display, and behind the counter (they had more back there). The decision to buy from our local distributers rests on us, if we don't support them, then they may go away. If prices get too rediculous however, then we owe it to them to let them know that there are other resources cheaper out there!

Hecha Pa'lante mis hermanos!

Raymond,
Maribel is at her home after 5 Pm.The cases she have are the type made by Humes & Berg. I saw that type of case yesterday at Pure Sound but the price was $89,I think you could buy the case from Maribel for may be $65 or less, give her a call y negocia el precio. Where are you located here in the Island ? She lives en la Encantada en Trujillo Alto, that urbanizacion is located at the end of the Trujillo Alto Expreso and is very easy to find her house. Men, now I have 3 Bongos but and instead of buying a $119 Lp pro Bag I bought a Tuxedo bag made by Humes and Berg to keep the Bongó safe and when I gig I just switch bags. I'll be mounting a thick natural skin head on the Moperc Hembra,I have not done that since a long time but I know the technic.

Onile ,I wrote and e-mail to Michel Ouellet at Moperc and those heads are Cows hide which is what they mount at Ismael Timba Shop in Bayamón,those are good heads. He also told me he sold some of those Tumbadoras to somebody Name Christobal Rivera here in the Island but I don't know who he is so I can take a good look of the Tumbadoras. Pa' encima Rumberos.

¡Adelante mi pana Caballoballo!
As for the Moperc skins I've mounted on my drums, I can say that the sound of all the drums that they are on has really improved. I had mentioned this on another post, but all the congueros that play my drums with those skins on them want to order some for their drums. Suenan increibles!

I just mounted one on the GonBop that I have and am waiting for the other two, and I'll change their heads too!

¡Hecha Pa’lante mi pana!
