Alafia Abures!
I hope that you are all well and in an abundance of wonderul blessings!
Okay, so my story may not be on tendinitis, but it's uncomfortable at best. This weekend I took my baby girl out to San Diego to visit with my eldest son who's a pilot in the Navy. Well on the way back, Sunday, we stopped to get some gas and refreshments at a gas station, and a bee flew into the car. I tried to swoosh it out with my hand, when all of a sudden BAM! I stubbed my middle finger on the door, it was my Right hand. To add insult to injury, we were coming home early because I had a gig that evening.
I had contacted Abure Ivan, who was in town conducting a training seminar and invited him to the gig. I was really hoping that he would be able to show-up, this way I would have had him sit-in on congas and I would play bongo or toys. He called me just before the gig and informed me that due to his hectic schedule, he wouldn't be able to get there. We hooked up later in the week however and had lunch! Really a great person.
I played none the less, for three sets (I taped the shit outta' my finger) and avoided slaps with my Right hand. Now you brothers and sisters all know that when the rhythm gets you, all gloves are off, you play like there's no tomorrow, and I did just that. I had a blast, as did the other musicians and audience. It was a latin jazz gig in a club called "Bobby C's", pretty laid back. When I got home however, I took the tape off of my finger and it puffed-up like a 'ballpark frank' (American Humor). I have two gigs coming up, with the same crew (four piece; drums, piano, bass, and congas). I'm soaking it, applying pressure to it, and taking my ibuprophen as well, but I know that rest is the key.
Just thought I'd share.....
Many blessings Abures Mi!
