I have Ned Sublette's Cuba and its Music and it is an excellent, well researched and documented overview of the history of the development of Cuban music. He is extraordinarily knowledgeable about Cuban music, writes well, has produced many outstanding Afrocuban records over the past 30 years, and leads music tours of Cuba that include the best music groups and musicians in Cuba. Highly recommended.
I don't have the Salsa Guidebook by Rebecca Mauleon, but she is an excellent pianist, both Salsa and Timba, and teaches well. That particular book seems to have been written in 1993 and she has developed a lot as a musician since 1993. The Geometry book is serious geometry written by a mathematician and computer scientist who was considered a founder of the field of computational geometry, so not very accessible if you don't have a strong math background.
