Hey dvon,

The slaps, open and closed, are the sounds that take longest to master on conga, I think. It's more a matter of focus and snap (like a whip) than power. Just doing it more and more will lead to a better, sharper sound. Could take years before a nice crispy slap is produced consistently with little effort. If you're not satisfied with your sound yet, it's a good sign - means you'll keep improving. Keep on doing it, it will come.
