Gold hardware - on the decline?

Postby Mike » Sat Oct 26, 2013 10:58 am

I was wondering how many congueros and bongoseros actually
still have got instruments with gold tone hardware.

FWIW I started out on a LP gold comfort conga in the 1990s as well as done
Afro Elite bongos of the same color. But I ditched all of those drums a while ago.

The point is I do not see those golden hardware all that much any longer.
So what about you?

The result of the poll so far is pretty close to what I had thought...
OK, with 8 participants to date the data are not... entirely ... transferable :P

I have gold hardware on my LP Classics, and would love to get rid of it.

I would not have it. It seams as though more "sooner than later" the stuff starts to flake and it looks terrible.
I do believe however, that that it fits some drums.
I would say that it is in declive just based on what you see out there which is hardly any gold plated hardware.

Looks apart, your statements show that there are issues with gold hardware hardly anyone wants to deal with any longer.

I have gold hardware on my LP Classics - bought them in 94 and they look as good as new.
Only got gold because they had gold in stock and they were cheaper than silver.
I could care less what color the hardware is - LOVE my Classics!

That is just fine.

As the poll has revealed, the majority of congueros does not seem to adhere to gold hardware though.

^I know you are German so you probably didn't understand the nuance of what I said.
When you used the word "though" above, in English that implies that you disagree with me and that I am incorrect.
I am not incorrect. You just didn't understand me.

Just to clarify the main emphasis of what I said above........
I DON'T CARE WHAT COLOR MY HARDWARE IS, AS I HAVE NO PREFERENCE.

Hey Congamyk, I did not intend to express any kind of disagreement
with your choice at all. If I did, then I am really sorry for the misunderstanding
that might have been caused by the fact that English is not my mother tongue indeed.
I overread that your attitude is neutral, so maybe I should have added a "neutral" button to the poll.

After all I just tried to express that (currently in this poll) 16 out of 22 participants do not own
congas with gold hardware. Well, you do. But there is no problem with that at all of course.
It´s all good, and I would have gotten the message without the caps as well. :)

I have three sets and a bongo all with chrome hardware. I just like chrome better than the gold.

Perhaps it's because of your silly whining and bitching over nothing?
All I did was clarify my response using caps.

Does any of the factory conga makers stock gold hardware today?

I like this new color, sort of a dark grey on these Tocas....Thoughts?

I think they call it black mirror hardware.
Looks real nice, LP Durian drums have
similar hardware. I think they are taking
a page from car rims. I guess see will see
how durable this finish is in years to come.

Looks like the current Toca Sheila E signature
congas sport gold plated hardware.

And I do not see any "silly whining" or "bitching" in RR´s response.

Just a tendency of yours to use language that is not appropiate as
far as netiquette is concerned.

Just that.
I do not want to raise a fuss about it.

You seem to fond of fond of bold type too - that makes all the difference of course... :P
