Hey JConga, I hear you. Here are some videos of Central Park, that I found from a link in one of the threads here. I don't recall the thread. Should have put it in my favorites - the one with all the Photos of the great rumberos. It's similar to Barry's site. Can someone tell me what thread its in. Was thinking of Titling this post 'Then and Now' and post a clip of a drum circle in central park. Its kind of frustrating that very few, that I associate with, are interested in studying to learn to be able to play something structured. I love to here singing along with drumming. The drum circle scene is really wearing on me lately. You New Yorkers have really been blessed. Thanks for sharing and promoting the history and culture!

No, I had not seen them before. And yes,, good voices! Rock solid clave and shaker all the way through, even when they started the dancing at the end. I'd like to learn that song. Not much time these days for studying, but maybe I can find it in my list of rumba songs..
Thanks for the link!!

Guaguanco de cuerdas, Chacho!
Now I've gone and downloaded in my pants again!

That is one of the sweetest guaguancos I've heard, not to mention players that are great to look at! That first chair violin, se robo mi corazon!

Thanks for the link JC!

Nice one JC! I first heard this song on a double cd called Cuba Isla de la musica. Now I can see who recorded it, and it makes it even nicer.
There are other bands that do stuff like this. Mixing classical with other forkloric style things that are pretty good too. Peace

Here is another GREAT example of "split hand" style playing, based on what I believe is the "bougaraboo" style of playing http://hk.youtube.com/watch?v=JPKU8Q51UC0 LOTS of GREAT players in the world today!...Dudu Tucci is one of them....Johnny Congas

http://streetlevelproductions.blogspot. ... house.html

chek out the Great Patato Valdes at Sentimiento Manana...a new blogspot about Rumberos, Bataleros, and the Drumming scene of New York City...the videos are by Willie "El Ruso" Everich who is also performing on congas . Willie's side of the blog is called Street Level Productions so chek out the vids of actual NYCity "street rumbas" and other concert videos....Johnny Conga
