Hello From a Newbie

Postby Skully » Mon Dec 08, 2008 11:41 am

Hello, I would like to briefly introduce myself and to express my gratitude to this community for sharing its knowledge.

I am new to congas but have been around percussion for about 40 years. I started off with snare drum lessons in a marching band and "progressed" to a needlessly large trap kit (and a silly perm for my long hair; it was the 1980s!). I eventually moved to hand drumming focusing mostly on frame drums (Cooperman), as well as on dun dun, djembe and bugarabu's (Drumskull).

I recently bought a set of Aspire congas for my 5 year old (or were they secretly for me?!) I find that I am really enjoying the conga experience. Isaac is helping me with some Mule Skin heads (thank you Isaac for your help and answering my questions!). I recently ordered 3 congas from Drumskull and I am patiently waiting for them. I can see a set of 4 higher end congas with lug hardware in my futre and will call that my mid-life "oppurtunity" (no crisis here.) I have been teaching at a university in Abu Dhabi for 7 years and I hope to remain here for the next dozen years. (Any other Congaplace.com members in Abu Dhabi??)

With that, I humbly would like to say hello and join the Congaplace.com community.

Best
