I agree with you ...I have met quite a few that have come to me to learn but backed off cause they couldn't handle my energy. It's ok for me it, meant it wasn't meant for them to learn from me, and maybe not to really learn at all.....I get along great with my student/friends, and they with me...."JC" Johnny Conga...
The best teacher i have had in cuba was chaguito .One on one and in a group situation .He is very precise and calm in his approach and always made people feel at ease .One of my biggest problems while teaching is giving away to much info to soon , maybe overwhelming the students a little bit .I have learned to hold back a bit lately . Hey, long time out...Just wanted to tell that a buddy o`mine posted this video of me on youtube playin my humble set of tumbas and it`s a kinda funky 6/8 feel that I got the inspiration of doin`...! this was taken in the past year. i believe...
Bros, be on the look out for on you tube for claim themselves to be teachers, I just ran into a video by some Manny from the band Relampago trying to teach the slap and was he way off. So be on the look out and always get a second opinion.
Oslongo's right! If you run across "Manny" from Relampago and use his technique to learn or improve your slap, you may be hurting yourself. Please refer to this forum's many threads for instructional referral/tips on the slap or see your reliable instructor.
Look I have said this many many times..just because a guy can play DOES NOT make him a Teacher. Or if worse if he can't play and is making it up....Their are a LOT of Charlatans out there so Beware.....after reading your posts I don't EVEN want to look at this guys video...."JC" Johnny Conga...
I just put up some video of Los Muñequitos at Esquina Habanera, featuring singer Alberto Romero (Ibaé). There is also a link to download the file if you want to save it...
My former band (now located in UK), the track is titled YEMAYA from the upcoming album. All original composition by SON VENENO. (copyright etc)
The footage is a mix from our last rehearsal together before they left for the UK and also from the album launch gig. (pics in this thread here: http://www.congaplace.com/cgi-bin....arewell
