Wow. This place is AWESOME. A recent, up-to-date, undead, non-metal-head, percussion forum. AMAZING. Anyway, yeah, just gotta say I love that. I've read one post and I already know this place is awesome. Anyway, I'm just a kid from around the block, but it's great to see drummers that play congas and djembes and the sort. Anyway, lemme just tell ya a little story..

So I went to this earthy shop and I go to the back. They've got handcrafted, straight-from-Africa djembes. I started to play one of them. It was SO fun. it's so much more finger-oriented than drum set drums. Anyway, I have my eye on a new crash, so the djembe will have to wait. Questions:

I read something about always being sure to check for anthrax on djembe heads, or something. Explanation?

Do any of you play the drum set as well? I myself am a jazz, latin jazz, fusion, and funk drummer. I also have a set of congas which are really fun since they're hand instruments.

Is there a website that has a description of a bunch of various african drums?

How are you?

because when they shave the heads and get the hair off it does something that causes anthrax to get in the air from the shaved hide and when you breathe it goes in your lungs and gets you dead LOL .......... or real sick. I think the threat is mostly for drum makers that do that all day long and not as bad with a djembe player.
