Afrocuban/latin percussion in Los Angeles

Postby dxport65 » Sun Sep 17, 2023 6:24 pm

I am looking for afrocuban Rumbas, latin percussion groups, or instructors in the LA area. I went to check out Leimert park on the first Saturday of the month a couple of times, but I don't think the rubmas are happening anymore. Motherland used to have conga instructors, but they have disappeared as well.

Hi dxport65,

Joaquin Pozo gives classes over the internet. He is a Cuban master conga player and rumbero based in NYC, a really outstanding conga player with the most melodic soloing style I have heard. Here are a few songs he has written and recorded, playing congas.

There used to be Rincon Rumba. You might want to try and track and down and see if they are still happening.
