Paoli Mehias, "Mi Tambor". Like Giovanni, a percussionist from a different universe.

Miguel Anga Diaz - Echu Minga

On one track he plays "Round midnight" on seven tuned Conga. Really top stuff.

Listening to something I hadnt heard since like 1990 or so, I came across this album in a record store the other day, I lunged at it and snapped it up real quick!

My taped version had long since been destroyed.
Ah reliving old memories.... Daniel's recordings had a big influence on my development into a more serious player in the late 80's early 90's.

The old but still "new" Ray Barretto's classics...
Ricanstruction, Indestructible, The Message

Also, the new and refreshing Yerba Buena's Island Music. This is great album and great group in my opinion. A lot of youg musicians of a diverse backround and great feel good music with latin roots. Ssssssshhhhek it out.

I also got a copy of the recent album released by "Orishas". Gotta get my dose of hip/hop, but the good stuff not the bling, bling BS

Yerba Buena is a great group! I am hoping to see them live at some point. I like Orishas as well but I prefer their first CD. You can't go wrong with some Latin Hip Hop

Someone just got something off the net for me I was searching for a while: a tune called "Mother Africa" from Santana's "Welcome" album, one I used to have. Boy, that tune kicks. Haven't heard it in so long, was one early inspiration for me.

I wanna hear that Miguel Anga Diaz and Paoli Mehias music that was mentioned here, sounds awesome; I'm sure it is.

Thanks to my brother from another mother  David Peñalosa, Im listening to some of his Bembe Records label recordings,

*Grupo Ilu Aña - Sacred Rhythms
*Michael Spiro/Mark Lamson/Bobi Cespedes - Bata Ketu
*Cepeda - Dancing the Drum/Bailando el Tambor
*Orquesta Sublime - Sublime Havana
*Manolito Y Su Trabuco

Loving the fusion of Afro Brazilian/Afro Cuban folklore in Bata Ketu, some excellent work there.

I got an Mp3 Ipod-clone player with 2,000+ mp3 songs. I listen to a lot of stuff. Here's a sampling of what is usually playing in my car when I'm driving to and from work.

Descarga Boricua (Esta Si Va and Abrazate a Puerto Rico)
NG La Banda (miscellanous songs)
Batacumbele (both CDs)
Issac Delgado (miscellaneous songs)
Dizzy Gillespie's United Nations Orchestra
Tito Puente's Golden latin jazz all stars in session
Wichy Camacho (all of his three solo CDs)
Paquito D'Rivera/Arturo Sandoval (Reunion CD)
Timba bands (Azucar Negra, Bamboleo, Tumbao Habana, Los Van Van)
Old Eddie Palmieri tunes featuring Lalo Rodriguez
Ray Barretto tunes (Fuerza Gigante, Indestructible)

and some funk/rock, mostly Earth Wind Fire, Tower of Power, and Chicago.
