In this video it sound like he is playing a kick drum of some sort. Obviously you can't see his right foot...any idea what that might be? As a drum set player I'd love to find a way to incorporate a kick drum into a three conga setup but still keeping the conga between my legs. Not sure how I'd set up a drum to do that?

There is no kick drum. That is the bass of the conga you are hearing. He is an excellent player and knows how to get a good bass sound out of his drum.

Well I'm a bit embarrassed...I'm sure you're right. However, at about 4:25-4:30 the bass note I'm hearing is coming from his left hand? It just doesn't appear and sound that way to me? Guess I better continue to work on my technique or maybe upgrade the original heads that came with my Matadors...'cuz I don't have that kind of bottom end.

And none of them gives a shit about the beaten/rumba-scarred look of their drums with lopsided crowns. These are drums with street cred and they're justifiably proud of their look and sound. It's always been about the drummer, not the drum. Doesn't get any more real, honest and from-the-heart than these people and the joy they've shared. Thanx for this post.

Yeah, but those drums are made of some bad ass caribbean hardwood. Plus if you've ever been to Habana, you know whey they're playing that stuff, and driving around in fifty year old cars, and etc. etc. etc. My sonocs looked like that when I first got them, cleaned them up and voila, sound don't change though, just bad ass!

And now for something completely different.... some body percussion with the Claptet.
These guys are some buddies of mine from Oklahoma with more talent and time on their hands than the percussion world can handle!
