Playing with DJ help

Knowing that people make take the percussion gears,is why I don't take small things to play with DJ's,all I'm going to play it is set up in the Timbales and tight..I don't know why a DJ would tell you to play soft becouse he is doing mix,(that's why they have headphones),and experienced DJ's would do mix on the spot,with have of the headphone,(one ear on the head music and another ear on the mix).

Thanks for the view, the advice and the info from someone who's been there. All of you have been super in giving me solid background on the scene. Helps me frame my mindset and possible commitment.
