Well said Brother Onile,

Greetings to all for 2006.
Since taking Onile's advice in another thread, and getting self miked and self monitored, I am now able to play hard, with nuance and within my comfort zone, and bells, shakers and other toys can be played with more accuracy and you know they can be heard. and before anyone starts to talk about 'the good old days', PAs, monitors and amps are much louder now than in 'tgod', and we dont all benefit from empathetic, big eared sound engineers, like Abacua.
If like me you are a 'percussion pimp' and play with anyone who wants and pays you, getting miked up, self mixed and in ear monitoring, has salvaged my hands, my ears, my chops and my enjoyment of playing live.
Drummers get the heavy metal carbon fibre turbo sticks out when the sound on stage gets big, we split fingers!!!

May the gig fairy smile on us all in 2006
Suave

I have only been playing hand percussion about a year and I used tape for a few gigs, I found that sometimes I can play and play and play and my hands are like mallets, other times after the first song they burn and if I would push it I think they would split its then that I might use a little tape. Maybe its a warm up thing, or a climate thing with your skin and the amount of humidity in the air? I dont know but I do notice sometimes I can play longer with out tape then other times. I do have some nice caluses and I dont beat excessivly hard. But it is a mystery to me why some times its worse then others, heck it might even be the amount of greasy chicken I ate that week :p
