My statement was,(as it is still there),that the Contradanza was rooted in the European musical structure and was different than what the musicians were trying to do with the 'Habanera',...now you need to point out which was the african influences of the Contradanza,(according to you research)... and from where you think the Cinquillo is coming from..Dr. Zaragemca

OK, so you are now back-peddling from your statement that the Cuban contradanza’s "musical structuration was all European". I already answered about African influences in the contradanza (see previous posting in this thread). What the Cuban’s call cinquillo is a very basic rhythmic pattern found within a wide belt ranging at he very least from northwest Africa to south central Africa and throughout the music of the African Diaspora. It’s conceivable that several different African ethnic groups brought the pattern to Cuba, but because of its prevalence in Cuban-Congolese music, it probably was introduced on the island by Bantu peoples. Some accounts state that cinquillo was introduced into the Cuban contradanza in the Oriente (eastern provinces), others say that cinquillo was brought over from Haitian refugees. This second theory discounts the likely hood that the pattern was already in Cuba.

Brother David,I'm not back- peddling from anything,..The Cinquillo didn't come to the cuban music from the venues you are discribing,I would make a short article with the name of it Cinquillo.Dr. Zaragemca
