We have just released 2 DVDs and 3 CDs of Palo material from the Dominican Republic. I am very excited about these:

MISTERIOS
A journey in the complex and mysterious world of Vudu filmed in New York, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Live footage of real rituals and ceremonies as well as many interviews show an inside and intimate view of a usually private and secretive tradition. Incredible video and sound quality coupled with great editing puts this DVD in a league of its own!
Filmed and produced by Giovanni Savino.

CULTURE OF PALO
Palo Music and Oral Traditions from the Dominican Republic,
'The Culture of Palo', aspires to be a humble archival collection of all the marvelous musical-religious expressions encountered in the course of filming 'MISTERIOS' that for editorial, timing and formatting reasons was not possible to include. Anthropologists, ethnomusicologists and the general public will find this work entertaining and educational. This DVD helps preserve at least a small part of this rapidly disappearing and mutating oral tradition.

PALO DE MUERTO - Bolo, Guivo y Su Grupo
Incredible recording from a historic location of an almost forgotten musical tradition. The music, 'Palo de Muerto' (Palo of the Dead) is used at wakes and funerals.

FIESTA DE PALO - Santa Marta Dominadora
Live recording of a celebration in honor of Santa Marta la Dominadora in the deep south of the DR. Traditional & religious themes mixing the sacred & profane.
