as some of you may remember, late last year I was cast in an ad for TIC TAC where I was asked to play the part of a bass player CLICK HERE FOR PICS FROM THAT DAY
The ad has finally been edited and pretty much ready for TV, I got the call to come in and record all the percussion for the audio for the ad, ie Timbal, Tumbadoras, Bongo, Bells, Guiro etc...
They were paying very well, so I had a bit of a sweet talking to the producers and also hooked up my timbalero with the gig also! hehehe instantly doubling their budget for the session!
The tune is basically a charanga, into a montuno, back to charanga with a 'train wreck' style ending as the ;ead up of the ad is reached, then a percussion bloque/arrangement to queue out. Once the ad is released I will post the finished product, below are some pics from the studio session.
Local trumpet player, Adrian in for a take... Adrian had been in Cuba where he had the opportunity to gig with La Charanga Habanera/Charanga Forever, Bamboleo and others.
Abakua, good to hear the photo shot gig landed you (and padres) the actual jingle soundtrack!! Jingles are always fun. Talk about getting it all in the time alloted
I woiuld really like to hear the track when you can post it!! I am amazed at the mic placement, what heck is the wind screen(foam) doing on the conga mike?/? Its not even directed to the congas. Oh well, its hard to tell what really went on at the time. A Sm58 on the timbales? There must have been at least a overhead condesnor no?
Not to impead on your jingle/photo comercial gig, I'm intrigued !! Could you tell thename of the studio and engineer ? T
Yeh, wasnt a photo shoot where I was on bass, it was for a TV commercial. I have received a mpeg of it, just cant share it till its released on TV.
The room was amazing, the amount of projection in the instruments was unbelievable. The mix on the mics and adding our percussion tracks onto the existing recording of bass/piano/vocals came out excellent.
The studio were the tracks were recorded was beamo music or revolution music (seperate divisions within same company. It came out really well.
