Vaya,

I am a SalSa Dura fan, player and On clave or 2 Dancer. I listen to SalSa and Son Montuno all the time and always looking for music who have the 1970 flavor,BTW Iam glad the SalSa Monga era with all their pretty face singers good for nothing is dead. I have around 500 Salsa CDS,many of them reissue from the Gold epoca or the 1970,Musica Cubana,Colombia which I think is carrying the load know and some music from Africa,Holland and Venezuela who has a band named Bailatino estilo la Perfecta de Palmieri o Many Oquendo Conjunto Libre ,check it out. Like Hector Lavoe use to said,Yo canto, bailo y toco un poco=I sing, dance and play a little. Pa' Encima Rumberos

"Sacude ese zapato viejo!"
I am right there with you, I think that the Salsa scene de los 70's, Ray Barretto, Eddie Palmieri, El Gran Combo, just to name a few, was really where it was at. Los soneros sonaban, los musicos tocaban, todos estaban en algo! I was holding onto all of my vinyl albums during the lean years, cuando los nene bonitos se pusieron a cantar, yo aqui tanquilo en casa tocando Salsa y Charanga, Orq. Broadway, La Novel, Hansel y Raul, y los de mas. I'm also a "Salsa Dura" fan! Adelante!

Respeto!

Hello everybody!
I came to afrocuban music from jazz (I used to play jazz trumpet, and didn't want to hear about anything but swing or bebop), the fist I've listened from latin music was Eddie Palmieri's Solito. His music includes both latin groove and jazz arangementes and soloing. I started to learn about latin music from this album, till now he's my favorite one, his records all are great no metter what he plays salsa, latin jazz, funk.
Descarga is that we play in our band and I like to listen the best. Also I have a lot of rumba records from Cuba and NY. Los Papines are the greate percussion masters, and have a sense of humor. In my CD collection I have differente music from old charanga to contemporary timba funk, but old school are the best to learn from.

Woah! Latin music lovers! I'm currently listening to JC's program (he actually has a sub tonight, as he mentioned, but it's slammin') You've got to tune it in and give it a listen!
I had to navigate through a couple of places to get to where the music was, but hey...I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer :D

Here is the actual spot where the music is being played:

Enjoy, I sure am!

Many blessings Brothelee!

Vaya Onile...Mil Gracias for tuning into the show...Patty does her best for me and I appreciate her effort. She never knew anything about the NY Latin music scene, but she does now. I will be there this saturday, with a lot of New music from New Artists on the Latin music scene today, and with of course the "classics" I grew up with in "Da Bronx"....."JC" Johnny Conga...

I play regularly with my father's Criollo Clasico quartet (members.tripod.com/Lilor/index.htm) and with a South-American/Caribbean group, MarKamusic (http://www.markamusic.com). I also freelance with any group, mostly get calls for substituting as a bongo, conga, or drumset player in Latin ensembles.

I listen to all types of music. I'm heavy into Latin-jazz and salsa, and have a HUGE Mp3 collection (wiling to share online, if anyone wants, just email me at agueybana79@yahoo.com and we can setup some sort of transfer time/method). I listen to stuff from Cuba (Issac Delgado, NG La Banda, Azucar Negra, Charanga Habanera, Irakere, Sintesis, etc.), stuff from Puerto Rico (Batacumbele, Los Majaderos, assorted salsa soneros, etc.), stuff from Venezuela (Guaco), stuff from here in the U.S. (Earth Wind Fire, Chicago, Tower of Power, Michael Jackson).

But, I'm solidly a Jazz, Funk, and Salsa fanatic. Since I've had a long-time experience as a drummer and have had much stage experience with many different ensembles, I'm equally at home pumping a funk-band or hip-hop band, as I am grooving with a Salsa, Jazz, or Latin-Jazz group.
