questions questions questions

Hello.

Im a drummer/percussionist from Holland.

Ive been reading this nice forum for a while and had some questions regarding buying timbales.

I have a few options and want to now some more about them:

Image
black Ludwig WFL's (1950?) in a 13/14 size. For around 145 us.

Image
Puente's Steel model in the 13/14 size. Up for bid.

Image
Puente timbalitos with green badge (size/date unknown) For around 250 us.

Image
Afro steel 13/14. For around 180 us.

Image
Afro brass 13/14. Up for bid.

Or wait for a set of older Dutch Afro timbales (read some nice things about them) or save money and by a set of new steel or brass prestige timbales.

Ps. how are the older Yamaha Alex Acuna timales rated by you guys? They came in White Sparkle and Vintage Natural and had a metal inlay (A steel ring attached to the shell's inner edge helps generate a sound that is both tight and powerful with excellent attack.) and I could get a hand on a 13/14 set for around 755 us.

Thank you for the reply. You have so much knowledge. Super!

Im a real contemporary percussionist (pop, soul, urban and even some rock now and then) so it has to cut trough a reinforced band setup. Yet I want to have soul in them and have the ability for a good cascara sound. I like the idea of top tuning on the Prestige but I find them quit expensive compared to the other models (new and second hand)

If you like the top tuning feature you may want to consider this:

To bad its Pearl (im a Yamaha man) and its not 13/14. But the idea is cool.

Would be nice if one can retrofit standard timbale bolts to top tuning bolts.

I own of those, they are very nice, and I would not give them away, sorry.
But they pop up at German ebay once in a while, I would just keep my eyes open.

Good luck!

BTW the recommendations by the other forum members are surely equally worth giving a try.
Peace & drum
