Hi, i need to buy a bongos and these are ones i consider: LP matador LP professional Meinl 400 series
My main concern is: Is there really significant sound/build quality difference between matadors and other bongos that are two or even more times expensive?
Shell material and metal hardware seems to be pretty same (I don't care if its traditional rim or not). Shapes in LP line seem similar too.
If i just reskin matador, will i get nearly the same sound quality as top notch ones?
I totally agree with Mike. I have heard Matadors that have had the skins replaced sound as good as any high end bongo. As far as the bongos themselves, Ive noticed that the major difference is in the wood. Hope this helps. K.C.
Yes my friend, A Matador with top of the line skins will sound as good as the top of the line Lp. I will suggest to choose the Matador custom because of the stronger hardware, it has cuban style bottom hoops instead of the cast iron type. I own one and have had good experience with him. It is very reliable and takes the punishment.
