My 1980's Cosmic Percussion.

Those are nice ones, RitmoBoricua, and the skins look nice. What skin is on the hembra?
I bought such a Cosmic Percussion bongó for my school as well several years ago, and it has never ceased to impress the audience.

Thanks, Mike.The macho has mules and the hembra has a Remo synthetic with
the LP logo. This bongos are made with the famous or infamous, depending
who you talk to, rubber wood. One difference between this bongo and today's
LP Matador bongo made out the same wood is that my CP staves are solid wood,
today LP bongo's staves are plywood. My CP I noticed is a bit heavier than similar
Matador bongos made most recently.

Nice Meinl bongo, Mike. Some years back I used to have a Meinl fiberglass bongo,
great sounding bongo.

Interesting, a Remo synthetic with LP logo - never heard of that.
Yes, that CP bongó is on the heavy side, which is why I have it on a stand,
as smaller children have difficulties carrying it between the legs.

Back to my Meinl Livesound: I am planning to install a Remo Skyndeep skin on macho
(as soon as I have found a dealer overhere which is not that easy).

I like the idea of the combination of synthetic heads, on macho and naatural skin on the hembra, or the opposite combination.

I need a little help.

I need to know what kind of remo synthetic heads can i buy for the hembra on a matador size rim. They do not have the matadors listed any where in remos website.
I bought a 8.5 skyndeep remo head and i dosn't fit the rim dosnt fit through is to tight to big i think because od the excess gel material on the metal hoop those r skyns with skyndeep have.

I am looking for the right size for a galaxy Gio BONGO, HEMBRA HEAD has to be synthetic remo, for more volume on live concerts.
The thing is that i have classic hardware on my Gio Galaxy BONGO , hembra is 8 5/8 same as with curve rim.

I am looking for the right size hembra remo head on ebay, or online store.

Any help,, i will apreciate.

What works for me is that any head that fits LP Gen II also fits Matador bongos.
REMO website does not metioned anything about Matador bongos, if I see the head
fits Gen II I always assume they fit Matador, and the same head should fit Gios.I
know with older nuskyn for bongo hembra the fit was real tight on some of
my LP bongos other than that never had too much problem getting REMO heads
to fit my bongos now congas that's a completely different story. I hope this helps.

Saludos, as you Bongoceros can see I use natural thick skin for the Hembra. The synthetics do not provide that old school sound I prefer. Matador should have the same dimensions as the gen II.

Thats what i thought the same way you assume by Generation II bongos , pero no me quise arrisgar a equivocar otra ves. I allready got a skin that didnt fit my hembra drum, so the next remo head better fit.
I did needed the input on some of our members with experience that constantly buy synthetics.
Caballo Would you mind going to check ebay, and choose on of the synthethic skins for that measurement Gios hembra, and posting a link here so i can buy a good one the one.

i happend to like the sound of fiberskyn line, and i dont like the calf skin graphic skyn, i happend to think that the extra graphic film make it look worst, then if they would just stick to the color of fiberskyn which looks natural.

Well, I have considered a tucked REMO Skyndeep skin to be good for the macho of my
Meinl Livesound bongó (which was only produced between 1996 - 1998 by the,
hence a little rarity), but I had to discover how steep the price here in Germany is:
80$ + shipping
I think I might as well rely on the original skins. Otherwise the replacement skin
costs me more than I paid for the (reember: street warrior) bongó!
Or does anyone know a better (read: less costly) source for REMO bongo skin?

Drum head prices are through the roof if you don't needed right away

You are absolutely right there, RitmoBoricua.
Plus the fact that Meinl´s "True Skin" skins were
pretty good in the past, at least they might be more than OK
for a street warrior bongó that takes a rough beating.
On the hand, you always want to sound as good as you can...

Now the bongó has arrived, and it is in pretty good condition.
I really like the detail of the rubber protection plate where the
center block meets the shells.

Sturdy construction as always with Meinl
but not too heavy due to the shell contour: The weight is 4.750g.

What can I say, for a street warrior the skins are surely more than OK,
a rather open sound, but crisp enough as well. Nice to play in the sunshine
right now (on the first spring day after weeks of torrential rain).

Ponceño, no, jorge según tengo entendido y por lo q he hablado con Maelo, solo hace los shells.

Ponceño, no, in accordance with Maelo he only do the shells. So if you're going/interested on a set, you most provide the hardware.
