In my opinion the Ziricote wood grain is beautifull, and the shells look good.
The harware on the top crown looks primitive.

I think Mario should consider selling the bongo, with out hardware, and have the people take the bongos to a costume hbongo harddware specialist, like Mathew S. or J.C.R

What do you guys think about that?

It would make them more affordable, and reduce shipping weight.. :D

Rumbero4ever-

Next time you see Mario, please tell him to contact Ben. I've been waiting months for him to send me some hardware to complete some bata shells he made me. I've been trying to email him, but I haven't heard anything from him for quite a while.

The Isla bongo' is a copy of a 1980's Gon Bops teardrop model that I have. Notice the similarites in design, First photo my Gon Bops teardrop. Second photo the Islas.

Note the superior finish and craftmanship of the GB model.
That Isla bongo is horrible. Sorry. :(

I have to admit, the wood on that bongo is beautiful and elegant and it would stand out much more without the band in the middle and if the hardware was stainless steel.
Those lugs are odd looking, I think he should change the design.
I wonder if these bongos can be custom ordered, without bands and stainless steel hardware? :?:

Besides the presence of a band I see no similarity to the Gon Bops. Other companies have bands around their bongos and I am not really a fan of that feature on any make of bongo. The GB shells have a gentle inward hourglass curve. The Isla bongos have straight sides. The rim is the same rim Isla has always had for years. I would be very surprised indeed if Mario was working off a rare GB bongo as a model.

With all due respect Rumbero but why dont you just post the pictures rather than to tell us that you "will soon post" them. As of now we have not seen any picture posting. If these drums are not yet ready, and being that you see mario regularly, why dont you post "In process pictures", Im sure that we would all appreciate it.
Thanks

Way A lot better :D . Although the holes on the crown ears could be smaller to improve appearance. But that is a way better desing and look than the previous model hardware.
