I got all 5 volumes "Los Instrumentos De La Musica Afrocubana" by Fernando Ortiz. 1st volume written in 1952, volume 5th written in 1955. I got mine in 1980 from La Habana, this Mexican guy used to go to La Habana and bring back art and literature. I paid $300 for all 5 volumes, today originals like mine, go for $2000 here in Miami, if you could find them. First got intoduced to these volumes by Bill Summers who had them since the early 70's. Mongo had volumes 3 and 4 that talks specifically about "los Tambores" (the drums).

Dimension Latina con Oscar D' Leon play "Juancito Trucupey". Here you can see the use of las Pailitas or Timbalitos, however you want to call it. La Dimesion used the Paila instead of the bongo', just like Sonora Matancera.
