Nice one Dario, I thoroughly enjoyed that !! Wonderful stuff. Manny Oquendo was the real deal, what a history. Andy Gonzalez is looking a lot older there too. Great session.

Is that an Arsenio composition? It sounds so, at least.

I found that Manny played in an unusual way here, clave-wise. Usually he and other bongoceros of his era and descent would play the repique the other way around. But if he wanted to expose a reference to Arsenio's Papa Kila, that would make sense. Papa Kila, as well as Yeyito, played like this in relation to clave.

I always loved Manny's sencillo style.

Andy is looking sick, rather.

Thanks for posting the link, Dario -

I always loved Oquendo's bongo playing, his martillo was very tasty and fat (mazacote gordo). He was the reencarnation of Papa Kila with Arsenio. A lot of Arsenio influence in Manny's playing. Not too flashy, not too fast, but right in the pocket. Much "afinque" in Manny's martillo. The real deal.
