Rotating Lugs on a Matador Wood

Postby mrhands » Tue Mar 29, 2011 2:57 am

Hey guys. I recently picked up some LP Matador Wood bongos from craigslist. They weren't my first choice for bongos, but I wanted some bongos and the price was just too good to pass up. I payed less than a 1/3 I would pay for them at the store, and they are in terrific shape. And now that I play them, I got used to them and enjoy them alot. The weight still bugs me a bit and I would really like to rotate the lugs so that things are more comfortable. Can this be done on this model of bongo? If so, how do I do this? I would like to know before I start taking things apart.

Thanks for your time.

mrhands,
Loosen the four lugs enough for all of the hardware to be moved all together to where you want It would be the simplest way. Then just tighten to the liking.

yes you can do it, the bottom rims will turn, all you have to do is loosen the lugs enough so you can turn everything together, just leave the head in its original possition(dont turn the head) then retune, I did my 1st set of bongos/matadors like that. dont sweat it if you accidentally move the head, its just makes it easyer to retune because the head is already formed to the shell, just turn it and you'll be able to feel when it seats to the bearing edge.
