Cuco,

I'm not doing this for the money. I'm not getting a lot for them. I don't ask for $600 or $700 for a pair of bongos like some do in this forum. I just need reduce what I have because I don't have the space anymore. El dinero va y viene. Money comes and goes right away. A unique instrument will bring many years of satisfaction.

Cuco,

With what did you pull down the skin, did you use a crane? I know the crowns were very sturdy, I can't understand when you say 3 earlobes need to be welded. Under normal tuning, the crowns were very strong. I think what you want to do is modify them completely, but then originality is lost. The shells are thick, but they are light in weight and they project an incredible sound. They were all original except for the new heads.

I got it from Feltcher. He got it from a Cuban musician from Guantanamo in San Diego. You must have tunned it to the max because with me there was no sing of a weak ear in the crown.

From the picture, it looks like the welds did not have sufficient penetration to begin with. It would be a good idea to do some grinding and redo the welds that are still there.

When asked if I know how to weld, I reply that I can burn a lot of rods or wire. I did take an adult ed class in welding. I may not always get it right the first time but I can tell whether I have enough penetration and will pull it apart and change parameters to make it right if I need to every time. I did a 6 month stint doing production mig welding on light poles and only got red tagged once, and nothing that I have done has fallen apart yet. So y'all can feel safe parking in those big box parking lots :D
