My first bongo

Got this at Manny's in 1971. She's been around the world many times - has lots of hours and miles on her. Better than new and still getting better. I've got other vintage bongos and a few boutique ones but this one is my favorite and the one I play most. She doesn't travel much any more because I now keep bongos other places. Seen at home - Avanos (Cappadocia), Turkey.

I am pround to also own one of these solid LP Palisades Park mahogany models.
They seem to keep their sound for ages.

Vaya Psych, The first Bongó I played was the type tunned from top, since a crisp pop could not be achieve I used the candle approach and made a big hole on the skin. Then in 1974 my Dad bought me a new Lp which cost him $100, I do not know till this day what happens to that one. By the way, is that you playing on top of the roof ? if you open the picture seems like there is somebody on top sitting with black pants and white shirt.

Hey Mike. I've been following all your posts about your LP with interest. I also use a Sonor sit-down stand with it that you recommended. Mine has gone through lots of extreme temperature changes but no cracks yet. Well, maybe one small one between staves just starting but not all the way through.

Caballobello, Actually my very very first bongo was a cheapo candle tuned Zim Gar but I realized right away I needed something better and headed right to Manny's - I think I paid about $75. I fiberglassed the cardboard box and used it as a hard case for years. Don't know what ever happened to that Zim Gar. Good spot, that guy on the roof, I hadn't noticed him. One of my neighbors catching the rays. Cappadocia has enough sun to have solar hot water most of the year - even in the cold winter.

Something about these old LPs. Lots of guys on this board have, or had, them and most feel the same way I do about them.
