I'm looking to buy some Nice, Quality, Bongos!!!

Postby hangnailrumbero » Tue Aug 26, 2008 2:34 pm

I'm looking to buy some Nice, Quality, Bongos!!! I need quality, vintage will do, sound, and looks nice...no fiberglass. I am looking to spend no more than 300.00. Not interested in LP's or any modern drum at that....unless its a new valje, mathew smith, jcr, or any old school drum out there that someone might have for sale. I already spoke to the gentleman that has the JCR bongos for sale, but he wants 350.00 and I have to ask a friend of mine to drive out there and pick them up, compensate them , and pay for the shipping charges(with insurance, of course). So, again, I would like to thank those for reading and an advanced thank you for those who can help me in this department. Thanks again y Ashe Pa' Ti.

I have some late 1960's Martin Cohen LP's in Walnut. These bongo's are restored, by Robert Felcher (quality work) never had any cracks and they are 1 of a kind, LITERALLY. I can let them go for $250 firm. New heads and sound fantastic. Give me a call and I'll send you some more pics. Chris 308-530-6902

Sorry, but I'm not sure I understand your question... Are you talking about the lathe pattern? All bongos have two different shells. The Hembra is the bigger one, the Macho is the smaller one. Like I said, these are unique, one of a kind, 1960's Cohen made LP's and sound amazing.

That's quite a set you got there. The hembra grooves suggest Generation II(current LP Model) and the macho grooves Generation I (Older LP Model).
I saw this same set on ebay some time ago and I thought this have to be a mismatched set but you are saying they made out of Walnut from the 1960's.
All in all the bongo looks to be in good shape and very playable.

Blackflag,

Hangnailrumbero is an excellent percussionist, he knows there is a macho and an hembra, that's obvious to a 6 yr. old. What he is saying is that one shell is LP, the other is an LP clone, it does not have the LP branding on the cast iron bottom. Those are Juggs and are LP clones. They are unique because they are missmatched, one is LP the other one is not.

Thanks Ritmo, yes, they are very nice, playable bongo's and they were indeed on ebay. That's where I got them about a year ago from Robert Felcher. If Robert says they're LP's, then they're LP's. The wood is a perfect match and I find it extremely unlikely that they could be a mismatched pair. A person could spend their life trying to find a set in walnut matched this perfectly. Futhermore Omelenko, I talked to Hangnail over the phone. I appreciate your concern but we got it figured out.

You know I have a set of older LP bongos that I refinished recently and I was wondering what kind of wood it was because definitely
it was not mahogany, I have another seton mahogany too. Looking at yours I realized now that they are Walnut, not bad. Mine the grooves
on the macho and hembra match and on the bottom hoops the "LP" letters are raised. My other mahogany set on the bottom hoops the
"LP" letters are like yours, indented.
