PAN CON QUESO, Bongos...

Postby Mr. Conga » Sat Aug 02, 2008 11:19 pm

Does any body have Pan Con Queso instruments?

bongos?...congas?...can any one post some pictures, and can we talk about their quality?

A friend from Venezuela told me that just recently he was at Pablo Landeta's house buying some instruments, and saw a few bongos. But what really interested him was some enteriza congas de cedro (solid piece ceder congas), that Pablo made.
Pablo is the son, of Carlos Landeta, the origianl maker of Pan con Queso

I have a 10 lug Pan Con Queso bongo made by the father, the original, Carlos Landaeta in Caracas Venezuela. I also had a regular 8 lugs that belonged to Manolito Gonzalez, bongocero for Richie Ray & Bobby Cruz, this one is from the 60's and now my friend Mario has it. The one on the bottom was Manolito's and its a solid one piece. The first one 10 lugs is also solid.

Saludos,

Dario :D

Very Nice Bongos Omelenko, How is it playing the Pan Con Queso, 8 keys, can one move the hardware ?...
move the hardware around to lock betwwen the legs, for better comfort
Or is it inconvinient moving it, when it reaches the middle block, because of the 10 keys?

The 8 key Pan Con Queso goo looking too.
Thank you for the pictures.

It's my understanding that Carlos Landeta was famous for the best maracas, and his 10 key bongos, but he also made 8 key bongos, solid shell, and also stave....
if you know something different let me know.

Did he also make cuerve middle blocks on bogos, such as other great percussion makers, such as Junior Tirado, Jay B.,and
Mathew S ?...does any one know, or have pictures of thos kind?

I am very curious to see pictures what Pablo Landeta is currently making. From what some people from Venezuela tell me, the son of Carlos Landeta, is honoring his father's reptation, with great quality instrument work.
The congas, and bongos are only done by special orders of musicians, but the maracas are constantly being made.

The middle block on the 10 lugs is curved at the top, on the 8 lugs is straight at the top. The old man also made congas and awesome cowbells. I just purchased some conga heads from his son Pablo here in Miami, he was visiting. I think the quality of the old man can not be duplicated.
