Cosmic Percussion bongos

Postby Mike » Thu Apr 10, 2008 1:13 pm

I bought a set of 15-year-old Cosmic Percussion bongos as a replacement set for my pupils at school.
I only payed 30€ for this set which was hardly used at all.. Well, yes, I know, basically the CP series is not very good,
but I was positively surprised by what I actually got:
Quite different to the latest models which have comfort curve rims, meek hardware and too thin shell, this instrument
has got decent aluminium bottoms (close to Lp generation I) and the shells are mahogany! Very solid hardware as well
- all that is needed for the daily wear and tear at school.
I just wanted to share this.
This vintage Cosmic Percussion set is really good. Even the skins are OK, but I definitely have to see to them.

Mike...I have personally endorsed the older Cosmic Percussion drums. Whether the Bongos or the Congas. They were built very well and in my opinion are identical in quality to the current LP Matador line. So you got yourself a very nice set of bongos for the price. The newer Cosmic Percussion drums don't even come close in quality to the older ones. I have had at least 4 of the Congas and they were made very well and sounded extremely nice. So....thumbs up to you and your bongos Mike!

Thanks, Breeze,
I appreciate what you say.
So seemingly there was a good Cosmic Percussion era before the "big decline". in quality
BTW I have got an LP Catalogue from 1996, and there the CP bongos and also congas
already have today´s ´bad´features. So your tumbadoras must be somewhat older, too, I guess.

And yes, you´re right, the CP bongos I purchased resemble the Matador construction to a great extent indeed.

Greetings

Mike...I believe that the date on the inside of the last two congas I had were 1989 if I am not mistaken. You see these quite often popping up on ebay or craigslist and for someone looking to get a nice set of drums at a good price should keep their eyes open for the earlier Cosmic Percussion congas and bongos.
Take care Mike.
