All our love, hopes, and prayers go out to Ray Baretto for a speedy recovery!!! Ray is an absolute MASTER conguero who ALWAYS swings like mad and we need him to return to the bandstand real soon. Ray is who I steal all my best stuff from!!!!! Love ya brother Ray!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I second all the brothers sentiments for a speedy recovery.
I started out life as a jazzer playing sax and standards, and it was listening to Rays music which opened my ears to this other world of latino jazz, and sent me careering off the road and straight to the conga shop.

GREAT NEWS!!!....RAY IS DOING WELL. AFTER SURGERY HE WAS OFF THE RESPIRATOR IN JUST 6 HOURS, INSTEAD OF THE EXPECTED 72 HOURS......QUE VIVA LA MUSICA DEL RAY BARETTO!!....."JC" Johnny Conga.... :D

JC - Thanks for the update. Gotta love Ray Barretto!!!! My copy of Handprints got Katrinad and I just got a replacement today!!! Ray himself is, of course, irreplaceable. Skindeep you are SO right. The man is INDESTRUCTABLE!!! Long live El Ray!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone say your prayers for Mr. Ray Baretto, he has taken a turn for the worse, due to "clotting" and has been taken back into ICU(Intensive Care Unit), that is the news from New York city today....."JC" Johnny Conga...

I saw Ray just the day before he fell ill
, before he was about
to receive his Lifetime Acheivment Award
at the IAJE Jazz Conference. My thoughts are with him
for a full recovery.
