With the utmost respect to both of these masters, I have heard each of them give FAR better performances than this muscle flexing workout. These guys were EXTREMELY MUSICAL and this video doesn't really do them much justice. I say this for the benifit of all the young chops & speed addicts. These two gentlemen were also composers and bandleaders, and any session they were on improved greatly through their sensitivity and musical talents. Their first instruments were always their EARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saludos,

Berimbau

Saludos,to all thank you for the video Abakua..but..It is the same thing I have been observing later, it is all drum/set riff,(as a drummer),I could see that at ten miles away..NOT REAL TALKING, and always without the music in the backgroung.I guest it is time for this people to see what I could do with the music jaming around me.(6/8,,,Arara,,,Salsa,,,Rock,,,Samba.. your name it),I already know what they couldn't do.Dr. Zaragemca

Is he not the percussionist for Screaming Headless Corpses? That guy has some stamina to play with a band that goes full steam ahead 100% of the time.

I have to agree a little with Dr. Z. there is more flash and snare rudiments to that solo than there is creativity in melody. Personally my favorite players are the ones who are a bit more tasty and musical. Still the guy is good, obviously. To answer your question Johnny, I believe he is from NYC... I know his band is.

Hi all

I just completed to download the movie/documentary about la fania where the video of Ray and Mongo is. Just great, it is very instructive...

And to me, la Fania was and is still the best salsa formation ever.
